Bombardier Aerospace, on Tuesday, opened its engineering service office (ESO) here. The office, which now employs about 20 people, will house about 50 engineers before 2013, a release says.

The ESO will support Bombardier’s in production and in development aircraft programmes by providing assistance to the company and more than 400 engineers at its partners’ offices in the areas of complex engineering structure design, advanced stress analysis and project management services.

In a further hardening of stand, former chief minister turned rebel BS Yeddyurappa has refused to go to Delhi for talks with BJP central leadership till he is reinstated as chief minister if Karnataka.

As per reports, Yeddyurappa has refused to leave Bangalore till his demands are met. His reluctance to head to Delhi is understandable as he had, over the weekend, whisked away almost 50 MLAs to a resort outside Bangalore and would not want any breaking away from his ranks while he is away.

Defending a habitual offender proved fatal for a 59-year-old advocate from Gobichettipalyam in Erode district. The offender and his two aides allegedly strangled to death Appuswamy Sriranga Gounder, a lawyer in Gobichettipalyam and Tirupur, before dumping his body in a canal in Mandya district.

Gounder had gone missing since February 11 after he left his hometown for Mandya. Brother of former MP E Chinnasamy, Gounder was known to be a leading criminal lawyer of the region, handling high-profile cases.

Bangalore police officials claimed that Sabrina might have lost grip of the safety rope while moving from the shallow end to the deep end. The force of teh wave could have carried her to the six-feet-deep side of the pool where she was found unconscious state.

Bangalore artist Sheela Gowda, who uses unconventional materials like cow dung, ash and hair to make sculptures, has been shortlisted for UK’s biggest contemporary art prize, the Artes Mundi.

Gowda is among seven artists chosen from over 750 nominations from around 90 countries. Gowda startedas a painter, but began making sculpture in response to events like Bombay riots and inequalities in India’s growth story.

In a bid to satiate the unending curiosity over the universe’s origins, an international team of scientists — including researchers from Bangalore — are building a powerful radio telescope in Australia that can look for clues of what went on when the first stars were formed.

Scientists from the Raman Research Institute (RRI) in Bangalore are part of this scientific mission to unravel the mysteries of the universe. Apart from the Indian team, American scientists from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Curtin University in Australia are in efforts to build a powerful radio telescope by early next year that will allow them to see how the universe was formed.
