Kalam unveils mobile dialysis facility in Bangalore

Former President A P J Abdul Kalam late on Thursday unveiled a mobile dialysis unit at Manipal Hospital in this tech hub to provide the facility at an ailing patient’s doorstep.

As against the practice of patients with kidney ailments going to hospital for dialysis, the air-conditioned mobile unit can be taken to homes of those ailing and unable to travel or prefer the treatment at their house.

Fearing arrest after an unsuccessful attempt at chain snatching, three youths murdered a member of their own gang and dumped his body at an isolated spot at the Railway Colony in Yeshwanthpura in Bangalore.

The victim was identified as Manjunath, a habitual offender involved in several robbery cases.

Police recovered Manjunath’s highly decomposed body on July 11. The murderers had slit his throat and disfigured his face to conceal his identity.

Bangalore brothers killed in plane crash

Kartik Kalaichelvan (22) and Pratik Kalaichelvan (19), brothers from Bangalore, were killed on Tuesday night when their single-engine plane nosedived into a hayfield in Hood County, Texas.

Local news media reported that the brothers, along with their friend Casey Brinegar (26), to whom the aircraft was registered, were on “a fun trip to Stephenville for a barbeque — a Texas treat for a college student from India visiting his brother in Arlington.”

A leading tabloid has reported that Rajappa was moved to take the extreme step out of anger that Naveena turned down his marriage proposal.

Dismissing charges that Bangalore police have begun moral policing by enforcing a dress code for girls working in bars, police commissioner Shankar Bidari on Friday said the department was ensuring that the girls were not exploited.

According to him, police were prompted to enforce a dress code for bar girls after they learnt that many girls were brought to Bangalore with false assurances. “Most of them are from North. The girls were assured that they would be event management hosts. When they came here, they found themselves working in bars. We rescued them and sent them back to Rajasthan,’’ Bidari said.

Mumbai beat Bangalore by a margin of about Rs 200 crore to become India’s top biotech city in terms of revenue, according to a recent industry survey.
